Emily Watson And Shirley Henderson Joins The Cast of Dune: Sisterhood

It’s time to board the ship back to planet Arakis, as HBO has finally given the go-ahead to the highly anticipated series. On Tuesday, news broke that Shirley Henderson and Emily Watson, hailed for her role in Chernobyl will be joining the star cast of the upcoming spinoff dubbed Dune: The Sisterhood. The Dune: Sisterhood series is inspired by Kevin J. Anderson’s, and Brian Herbert’s book of the same name.

Emily Watson & Shirley Henderson Joins The Ensemble

The highly-awaited spinoff series has onboarded Emily Watson and Shirley Henderson. The former is hailed and widely acknowledged for the role in HBO’s Chernobyl, and is a phenomenal British actress who has been nominated for an Academy Award twice: the first time, for her first performance in Breaking the Waves as well as the second time, for Hilary and Jackie; which is widely recognized as one of the best movies of all time.

The actress also gave a brilliant performance in her latest flick God’s Creatures, and she will soon be featured in the Brian Epstein biography Midas Man.

Whereas, Henderson is a Scottish film star who is known for her role in movies like Trainspotting, Bridget Jones, as well as Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, where she played the spooky Moaning Myrtle. In addition, she lends her voice to the beloved Star Wars figure Babu Frik, who made his debut in 2019, Rise of Skywalker, and would return in the forthcoming season 3 of the Mandalorian.

What is The Premise of Dune: Sisterhood

The show was planned to take off in 2019 but was later postponed due to unexplained reasons.  The events of the series take place some 10000 years before the happenings of the 2021 movie.

The show will concentrate on the Harkonnen sisters Tula (Henderson), and Valya (Watson) as they form the renowned Bene Gesserit cult and fight evil forces that jeopardize the fate of humanity.

The Bene Gesserit, who has endowed with superhuman skills thanks to their mental and physical training, deftly navigates the aristocratic intrigues and politics of The Imperium on their way to the mysterious planet Arrakis, better known as Dune. It’s being billed as a “prequel” to the movies.

Diana Ademu-John developed, wrote, and is also serving as the executive producer for the upcoming Dune: Sisterhood. The former is also set to join the likes of Alison Schapker.
Villeneuve, Scott Z. Burns,  Jon Spaihts,  John Cameron, Matthew King,  Brian Herbert, and Cait Collins are also scheduled to join the series as executive producers.

The Next Dune Movie is Also In Line

The next “Dune” movie reboot is also being produced by Legendary studio. The first of the two movies premiered in October 2021 and made a little over $400 million globally. The premiere date for the sequel has been set for November of 2023. Both movies were co-written and directed by Villeneuve and his frequent collaborator, Spaihts.

After its debut, “Dune” was nominated for six Academy Awards, including the best picture as well as the best-adapted screenplay.
